 Homestyle Dal Makhani Recipe: (Tried and Tasted Yummy)



Ingredients: (for best sellers in grocery and gourmet foods)

1 cup whole black lentils (sabut urad dal)

1/4 cup kidney beans (rajma)

3 cups water (for soaking)

3 cups water (for cooking)

1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped

2 medium-sized tomatoes, pureed

1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

2-3 green chilies, slit

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon garam masala

1 teaspoon cumin powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1/2 cup fresh cream

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons oil

Salt to taste

Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing


Instructions:

Soaking Lentils and Beans:

Wash the whole black lentils and kidney beans thoroughly.

Soak them in 3 cups of water overnight or for at least 6-8 hours.

Drain and rinse the soaked lentils and beans before cooking.

Pressure Cooking:

Add the soaked lentils, kidney beans, and 3 cups of water in a pressure cooker.

Pressure cook for about 6-8 whistles or until the lentils and beans are cooked and soft. Set aside.

Preparing the Gravy:

In a large pan or kadai, heat butter and oil together.

Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.

Flavor Base:

Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.

Add tomato puree and cook until the oil separates and the mixture thickens.

Spices:

Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.

Cooked Lentils and Beans:

Add the cooked lentils and beans to the gravy and mix well.

Simmering the Gas Oven:

Add slit green chillies and garam masala. Mix and let the dal makhani simmer on low heat for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. You can add water to adjust the consistency as needed.

Finishing Touches:

Add fresh cream and mix well. Let it cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Garnish and Serve:

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
